Scholarship Information

As a diverse community, Concordia Lutheran High School seeks to enroll a diverse cross section of students who represent the world in which our students live. Students of faith are welcome and the Concordia experience nurtures caring, commitment, and responsibility from its students.

Choosing the right high school is, for some families, a serious and complex process. A number of factors must be considered in meeting the needs of each entering student. As you prepare to move into your high school years many questions begin to arise. Given the life-changing value offered by Concordia, one question you may have is what types of financial support are available to offset the cost of tuition?

Concordia offers four types of Scholarships to students who have submitted a completed Application for Admission. The Scholarship package awarded to a student varies from family to family and each situation is given individual attention. Students receiving a Scholarship are expected to maintain a positive academic and behavioral record. They are also expected to be a good citizen as a Concordia student both in and out of the school setting.

Need-Based Scholarships: Those families that are interested need to apply directly to the Private School Aid Service [PSAS] and an objective assessment of financial need is given to the school . Over 200 families receive need-based scholarships each year. Each family is reviewed on an individual basis.

  • This award is renewable on an annual basis through reapplying with PSAS.
  • Returning students are encouraged to apply beginning in February as part of the re-enrollment process. Applications for returning students must be submitted by July 15 applications submitted after July 15 will only qualify for assistance for the second semester.

Congregational Scholarships: Students who are members in good standing of member congregations of the Concordia Educational Association are awarded a Congregational Scholarship. Congregational support for Concordia Lutheran High School funds these awards and they are granted annually.

  • No formal application is necessary. A student qualifies as a result of being a member in good standing as determined by the congregation based on their participation in the mission and spiritual life of the congregation.

Excellence Scholarships: New students are invited to apply for this renewable scholarship. There is a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Each application is given individual attention by the Scholarship Committee. Awards may be given for academic achievement and promise as well as for merit and overall achievement.

  • Excellence Scholarships are renewable after a review of the student’s academic, behavioral, and citizenship performance.
  • Excellence Scholarships are reviewed each semester so as to assure recipients are within the academic, behavioral, and citizenship performance. If they remain within the guidelines the scholarship will automatically be renewed.

From the Excellence Scholarship applications, the top three students will be chosen to receive our largest academic scholarship, The Concordia Scholar.

WHAT IS A CONCORDIA SCHOLAR?

A Concordia Scholar is a pillar of the school community. This student is academically exemplary and demonstrates integrity and good character not only at school but also the church, the home, and the community at large. New recipients of this award will be given a $1,500 scholarship per school year. If their performance remains within the guidelines the scholarship will automatically be renewed. All interested students must apply for the Excellence Scholarship program by January 31, 2008.

  • The scholarship committee will select the top 20 students from the Excellence Scholarship applicants.
  • These twenty will continue to the next level of competition into the Concordia Scholars process.
  • The twenty semi-finalists will be required to submit an 8 th grade writing sample of their own choice, and supply answers to additional questions that the committee will provide to each semi-finalist.
  • The committee will choose eight finalists to interview. These interviews will be conducted in March and three finalists will be chosen and named Concordia Scholars on April 1, 2008.
