Introduction to the Hospitality Careers

Introduction to Hospitality Careers will prepare students for a post-secondary program in the hospitality industry. This course will offer opportunities to explore the following hospitality industries: tourism, hotel operations, restaurant operations, recreation and entertainment and event planning (i.e.) conventions. Students will develop skills in communication, marketing, management, customer service, sales, planning, decision making, and more. Hospitality students will study such topics as trends in travel, food and beverage planning, restaurant operation, personnel and event management. Students will select internships in the hospitality industry from the curriculum areas listed above to be completed during the second through fourth quarters of the school year. Students will gain valuable skills, explore possible career pathways and gain real world experience.

Culinary Arts I

The program is designed to prepare students for employment in the commercial food service/hospitality industry. The focus of this program is Chef's Training. Students rotate through the various areas of the kitchen and become familiar with the proper preparation and presentation techniques of salads, desserts, soups, sauces and entrees.

Culinary Arts II

PREREQUISITE: Recommendation from Culinary Arts I

Culinary Arts II is an advanced approach to food and cooking principles, appetizers, mother sauces, all meats, fish and desserts. It acquaints students with restaurant style food, menu planning, pricing, inventory, line production and service. Students will participate in the Barr Street Cafe, learning all aspects of the front and back of the house. ACF certified culinarian is awarded after completion of this 2 year program. Class meets 11:30a.m. to 2:00p.m.
