COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

This is a class that will cover the following activities: Learning about the past and future of computers; covering Windows usage, word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets; doing desktop publishing incorporating the use of graphics; using databases and internet searches. Computer Applications will meet every other day opposite study hall or chorus for the whole year or every day for one semester. ALL STUDENTS SHOULD PLAN TO TAKE THIS COURSE PRIOR TO GRADUATION.

COMPUTER KEYBOARDING/DOCUMENT FORMATTING (2120)

PREREQUISITE: None

Computer Keyboarding is a business skills course which will enable students to develop touch keyboarding with emphasis on entering alphabetic, numeric and symbol information. The students will strive for acceptable levels of speed and accuracy. Communication skills will be developed and enhanced through preparation and formatting documents in an information processing context. Computers are used with both basic and advanced software functions taught. Ethical issues relating to the use of computers and software are also addressed. Instructional strategies include drill and practicing using computer/technology applications as well as teacher demonstration, projects, and mini-simulations.

Business Management is an advanced level business course that stresses the opportunities and challenges of managing a business in the free enterprise system. This course provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate competencies by describing and applying management functions, principles, and processes that contribute to the achievement of organizational goals. Students will gain experience in building decision making skills, employee motivation, evaluation, teamwork, and the basic functions of business management. Instructional strategies may include job shadowing, simulations, other real world experience, guest speakers, tours, internet access to businesses, and computer/technology applications.

Accounting I is a beginning level business finance course that introduces principles and procedures for proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations using double-entry accounting with emphasis on accounting principles as they relate to both manual and automated financial systems. This course will involve analyzing and recording business transactions and preparing, analyzing, and interpreting financial reports as a basis for decision making. Instructional strategies may include the use of computers, projects, simulations, and real world experiences to apply accounting theories and principles.

Accounting II is an advanced level business finance course that will expand upon the principles and procedures learned in Accounting I. Emphasis will be placed on decisions made in the managerial accounting of corporations using more in-depth analysis of financial statements. Instructional strategies may include the use of computers, projects, simulations, and real world experiences to apply accounting theories and generate reports..

Business and Personal law is a business course that provides the basic foundation of the legal system. This course will cover consumer rights and obligations, contractual agreements, business rights and obligations, torts, law for minors, and both criminal and civil trials. Instructional strategies may include mock trials, case studies, professional mentoring, job shadowing, field trips, guest speakers, and computer/technology applications.

Marketing is a business course which provides a basic introduction to the scope and importance of marketing in the global economy. The course is based upon the Marketing Education framework which includes: business, management, and entrepreneurship; communication and interpersonal skills; economics; and professional development foundations. Emphasis will be placed on both oral and written communications, mathematical applications, problem solving and critical thinking skills as they relate to distribution, financing, marketing-information management, pricing, product/service management, promotion and selling. Instructional strategies may include computer/technology applications as well as real and/or simulated occupational experiences and projects in the marketing functions such as those available through the DECA program of activities.

PREREQUISITE: Geometry

Computer Programming is a business course designed to primarily introduce students to computer programming using various languages. Throughout the course, additional information regarding programming related careers and career and educational paths will be provided. Instruction strategies may include "hands-on" equipment operation and scenario-based activities. In-baskets, minibaskets, and LAPS may be used to expose students to workplace scenarios that require the development or programming of simple applications. Emphasis on necessary logical thinking processes is required for problem analysis and solving.
