Dress and Personal Appearance

As a Christian community we expect appropriate speech, dress, and manners. At Concordia Lutheran High School we believe that a student's appearance has an impact on his or her behavior. This relationship is documented in educational and scholarly research. Students are expected to be neat and well-groomed. Their clothing must be in good taste for school living, decent, respectful and modest. Any clothing which is determined to be disruptive to the educational process may be restricted as determined by the school administration. Students are to avoid extremes in dress and conduct that would attract unfavorable attention to themselves and their school. The dress code is in effect from the first day of school and at all times from the time the student arrives until the student leaves. During special events, certain portions of the dress code may be amended as determined by the administration. After school and during extra-curricular events, students are expected to dress neatly, modestly and in good taste.

  1. All shirts, blouses and dresses must have whole sleeves that are at least 4 inches long. Shirts must be worn right side out. They must cover the abdomen and back at all times (including when students are sitting and when stretching arms over their heads). Low cut, sheer, and unbuttoned blouses are not permitted.
  2. Writing on shirts is limited to a small 1 x 2 inch label or name, Scripture, university and grade school names, and CLHS team and CLHS club shirts and must include the words Concordia, Cadets, or CLHS. Brand names not in keeping with Christian philosophy such as, but not limited to, Abercrombie, Billabong, Hollister, and Coed Naked are not permitted.
  3. Skirts and dresses must fall to the knee. Low cut dresses and tight fitting skirts or dresses are not permitted.
  4. All pants must be hemmed, worn at the waist, and may not drag on the floor. Pants may not be torn, frayed, patched or written upon. Sweat pants, wind pants and baggy pants of all kinds are not permitted. Shorts and capris may be worn during the months of August, September, May and June. Shorts and capris must adhere to the same guidelines as pants and must have an in-seam of at least 4 inches.
  5. Wind suits, cheerleading skirts, and sports jerseys that are a part of a CLHS team uniform and approved by the administration may be worn to promote school spirit only on the day of the game, concert, or other event. The entire team must participate in a unified manner.
  6. Gym clothing is to be worn on the gym level only. This includes sports jerseys and team jerseys. Athletic pants, shorts, sweats, and slides are not to be worn in other areas of the building. All gym shirts must have standard sleeves.
  7. All students must wear shoes or leather sandals.
  8. Hats, bandanas, scarves and sweat bands are to be removed upon entrance to the building and are not to be worn at any time during the school day, after school or at indoor school activities.
