Koinonia
Small Group Mentoring

Mission Statement

The mission of the Koinonia ministry at Concordia Lutheran High School is to pursue a closer, growing relationship with Jesus Christ and each other through small group interactive Bible study and prayer and to increase the desire to follow God's will for our lives.

Description of Koinonia

Christian education must always be more than simply the education of Christians. One important thing that ought to happen whenever Christians come together is that they stir each other up for love and good works. (Hebrews 10:24) Education by itself is neither good nor bad, it is only one important factor that increases the capacity of the individual for accomplishing either good or evil. Whether good or bad comes as a result of the education of any person depends on the character of that person. The Koinonia Groups encourage the development of Christian character traits within the members of the group that encourage the utilization of God-give abilities, skills, and education for loving actions and a faithful Christian witness.

Good Christian education takes place when both students and teachers understand the struggle that always takes place between the flesh and the spirit as long as we are in this world. We must maintain constant contact with God's Word if we are to know who our real enemy is and what resources we have for fighting the good fight. Through the Holy Scriptures we know how much God loves us, we learn to keep our priorities in the proper order, and we develop that atmosphere of repentance and forgiveness that binds us together as one body of Christ. Within the Koinonia groups the guidance of the Holy Spirit is sought to lead us to put the truths of Scripture into practice in our lives.

Following the example of the Berean Christians (Acts 17:10-12), God's Word is valued as the ultimate authority for directing our lives. Koinonia Groups are characterized by prayer and meditative study of the Scriptures directed toward following Christ as Savior and Lord. Real issues will be studied and discussed seeking Biblical perspectives with the desire to let these principles direct our lives.

The Concordia Lutheran High School Koinonia Ministry is a combined effort of both students and staff doing ministry as a team. The greatest strength in our school is that we focus everything on the love and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Through prayer and God's word we seek answers to the challenges and situations that confront youth as they live out their faith in our society.

Trusting in Jesus' promise that He is present where two or three are gathered together in His Name, we are confident that these times together will improve our faith walk. We also trust that God will give His Holy Spirit to His children who ask. As we pray together and meditate on God's Word the Spirit will guide us to stir up our hearts for living with Jesus as Lord.
