One-to-One Technology: MacBook & iPad

Every student at Concordia is required to have either a MacBook or iPad on the first day of class. Through onsite management tools the high school provides access to high speed internet and a variety of apps required for courses. Concordia provides training for any student who would like to have it.

Device Preparation

Before using your device (MacBook or iPad) at school you will want to have it prepared and ready to go.

 

Step 1: Know Your Concordia Username, Email & Password

CLHS Username:
The last 2 of student graduation year + student first initial + student last name without hyphens.

Example: If Katie Madison-Storm graduates in 2024 her CLHS username would be 24kmadisonstorm

Email:

CLHS email address is the CLHS Username + @clhscadets.com

Example: Katie Madison-Storm's CLHS username is 24kmadisonstorm so her CLHS email address would be 24kmadisonstorm@clhscadets.com

 

NOTE: CLHS student email accounts are removed two years after graduation

 

Default Password:
Registration and email password is: Cadets1234

 

 

Step 2: Remove Old Profiles (iPad Only)

If you are a new student or have a new iPad you can skip this step. If you are a returning student or have a device that was registered at Concordia last year you will need to remove the old profiles:

  1. From the home screen, touch -> Settings -> General -> Profiles & Device Management (at bottom of right panel)
  2. Look for Concordia iPad MDM Profile, and two CA Certificate profiles
  3. Starting with last profile, touch it and touch delete
  4. Working upward, repeat for the remaining profiles until they are all removed
 

Step 3: Run All System Updates

Macbook:
Finder -> Applications -> App Store -> Update

iPad:

From the home screen, touch -> settings -> general -> Software Update

 

 

Step 4: Know Your Apple ID

To install apps on your MacBook/iPad, you will need an AppleID

 

 

Step 5: Name Your Device

If your device is ever misplaced and needs to be located on our network it is critical that you know the device name.

 

Macbook:
System Preferences (Gear icon) -> Sharing -> In the Computer Name box enter your CLHS username

iPad:

From the home screen, touch -> settings (Gear icon) -> General -> About -> Name -> Enter your CLHS username

 

 

Step 6: Join a WiFi network

If you are at home with a Wi-Fi connection, skip this step. If you are at Concordia, from the home screen touch  settings (Gear icon) -> WiFi -> Open

 

 

Step 7: Verify Your CLHS Email

Macbook:
  1. Launch your favorite web browser
  2. Go to gmail.com
    • Username: Enter full Concordia email address
    • Password: Enter default password
  3. Change your default email password (read further down in this tutorial)

iPad:
  1. From the home screen, touch -> Settings -> Mail -> Accounts -> Add Account -> Exchange
  2. Fill in the fields
    • Email: Enter full Concordia email address
    • Password: Enter default password
    • Description: CLHS Email
    • Press Next
    • Server: m.google.com
    • Leave Domain Blank
    • Username: Enter full Concordia email address again
    • Press Next
    • Press Save
  3. You will be taken back to the Email settings page, once there touch the CLHS Email account you just created
  4. Touch Mail Days to Sync and set to No Limit
  5. Wait a minute or so then launch the Mail app ensuring you receive Concordia email
  6. Change your default email password (read further down in this tutorial)
 

Step 8: Install Meraki System Manager

Macbook:
  1. Click this link: https://goo.gl/32CyCb
  2. Click the Register button
  3. Download and run (double-click) the configuration file
  4. You will be prompted for your Username & Password - This is your Mac login credentials
  5. There will be a series of three Install windows - click through them until the profiles window shows Meraki Management and Student Settings installed...wait a minute for the Student Settings to appear (see image below)
  6. When you are at school, check your wi-fi connection and ensure you are connected to the student network

iPad:
  1. Go to https://goo.gl/32CyCb
  2. Press the register button
  3. Install Profiles by touching Install, Trust, Done, Install as prompted (you might need to enter your screen lock passcode)
  4. Wait a few seconds
  5. Enter your Apple ID Credentials to install required Apps - you will be prompted to install numerous apps
  6. Once you are at Concordia touch settings (Gear icon) -> WiFi-> clhsStudent to be joined to the Concordia network
 

Step 9: Launch The Systems Manager App (iPad Only)

  1. Touch Systems Manager app on your Home Screen
  2. Touch OK on Allow notifications
  3. Touch Enable on the Enroll in Systems Manager box
  4. Touch Allow
Across the bottom of Systems Manager you will see an Apps icon. Touch it to view the list of all school apps. Critical apps will have been installed for you during device enrollment. Class-specific apps can be installed at teacher request.

 

 

Step 10: Bookmark Moodle & onCampus (MacBook Only)

  1. Launch your favorite web browser
  2. Moodle: Go to moodle.clhscadets.com and bookmark the page (varies by browser)
  3. onCampus: Go to clhscadets.myschoolapp.com and bookmark the page (varies by browser)

 

 

Step 11: Complete onCampus and Change Email Password Sections Below

That's It, your device is ready for school!!!  All that's left is to scroll down to onCampus and Change Email Password and you're done.

NOTE: While these instructions are directed at CLHS students, parents will follow the same procedure using their email instead of a CLHS email

 

  1. Ensure your CLHS email is working
  2. Go to clhscadets.myschoolapp.com and click Forgot login below the login box
  3. Enter your Concordia email address,
  4. Check the Password box
  5. Click the Send button
  6. Check your email for a link to set your password
 
 

Change Your CLHS Email Password

Email Password

From a Mac or PC (Preferred):
  1. Goto gmail.com
  2. Login using your CLHS email and password
  3. Click the arrow of the settings icon (looks like a gear) in the upper right side of Gmail
  4. Select “settings”
  5. Select “Accounts”
  6. Click Google Account Settings
  7. On the right side of the screen click Manage Security (Under Password)
  8. Click Change Password at the top of the screen
  9. Enter default password and your new password
  10. Confirm and click change password

From an iPad:
  1. Launch Safari
  2. Goto gmail.com
  3. Login using your CLHS email and password
  4. Goto google.comTouch the arrow next to your email address on the right side of the screen (just before the gear icon)
  5. Touch "Account"
  6. On the right side of the screen click Manage Security (Under Password)
  7. Click Change Password at the top of the screen
  8. Enter default password and your new password
  9. Confirm and click change password

Restrict An iPad - Disable Message, SnapChat, ETC

Locked iPad

Sometimes you will want to restrict some of your iPad features such as Messages, FaceTime, Camera and website blocking. To do this, there are three things you will need to do depending on what you want to block/restrict....

 

Disabling Message, SnapChat, Instagram, FaceBook, etc.:

This is done using iPad Restrictions.  Before enanbeling restrictions, ENSURE YOU REMEMBER your passcode!!!

  1.  

    Turn off/Log out of Messages, Twitter, Facebook and everything you want to remove access to

  2. Delete the app(s) you do not want access to such as SnapChat and Instagram

  3. From your home screen touch settings (Gear) icon -> General -> Restrictions -> Enable Restrictions

  4. Enter a passcode only you will know . Do not share it and do not forget it.

  5. On the right panel under Allow Changes, touch Accounts and select Don't Allow Changes

  6. NOTE: You will still be able to make changes to your account, you will just be prompted for the Restrictions passcode to do so

  7. That's it! Exit Restrictions, changes are instantaneous


Disabling Camera, Facetime:

This is done using iPad Restrictions.  Before enanbeling restrictions, ENSURE YOU REMEMBER your passcode!!!

  1. From your home screen touch settings (Gear) icon -> General -> Restrictions -> Enable Restrictions

  2. Enter a passcode only you will know . Do not share it and do not forget it.

  3. Turn off the Apps you do not want to be available - Typically this will be Camera, FaceTime, Installing Apps, Deleting Apps, and In-App Purchases

  4. NOTE: You will still be able to install, delete, etc, you will just be prompted for the Restrictions passcode to do s

  5. That's it! Exit Restrictions, changes are instantaneous

 
Safe Web Browser - MobiCip:
Mobicip is a PAID web browsing app that replaces Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc. It allows you to set internet filters to block what your child has access to on-line. You can visit the Mobicip website at www.mobicip.com to see if it is a solution that will work for you.
 
 

Change Your Apple ID

To change your AppleID

  1. Visit AppleID.Apple.com
  2. Log in with current AppleID/password
  3. In the Account row, click edit
  4. Click change your email address
 
 

Apple ID & App Store Support

If you are having trouble with your Apple ID or App Store purchases including iTunes, call iTunes support at 800 800 2775 option 3 or email itunesstoresupport@apple.com

 

 

 

Reset Apple ID Password

If you have forgotten or need to reset your AppleID and/or password:

  1. Visit AppleID.Apple.com
  2. Click Forgot AppleID or password  in center screen below the login area
