Cadet Excellence

A popular hashtag used on social media (at least within our community) is #cadetexcellence. In fact, it’s my go-to hashtag when I want to emphasize and/or share something special about Concordia Lutheran High School with my 1,000-plus close friends on Facebook and Instagram.

There are a lot of reasons for us to boast about the excellence of our school. Our academic programs are excellent! Our sports teams are excellent! Our JROTC program is excellent! Major Sheaffer’s tiny car is excellent! Our fine arts programs are excellent! Our alumni are excellent! Our teachers are excellent! Our students are excellent! Our fourth quarter for the 2019-2020 school year was excellent, even amidst the struggles and difficulties of remote learning. And guess what? Our 2020-2021 school year is going to be excellent as well — no matter what unforeseen surprises lie ahead!

Why is that? It’s because of who we are and whose we are!

Our theme for the upcoming school year is Excel in Grace … with Christ at the Center, which is based upon 2 Corinthians 8:7, "But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also."

Concordia Lutheran High School has a lot of exciting things going for it. Truthfully, though, you could say the same thing about a lot of the high schools in the Fort Wayne area. However, we’ve got something here that other high schools do not have. Our Christian community is centered on the truth of God’s word. We’re not perfect, but we are redeemed. Redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. Later, in his second epistle to the Corinthians, Paul reminds these Christians and us about the grace of God we’ve received in Christ: “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.”

This school year is going to start off a little differently than past school years, but one thing remains the same, we are rich! Rich in blessings! Rich in grace! Rich in opportunity to serve our neighbors in love! The most excellent thing about Concordia Lutheran High School is that we get to live in the grace, truth, and love of Christ every day. This is true no matter the circumstances!

We look forward to gathering together again (while properly masked and socially distanced) for another academic year and another opportunity to demonstrate Cadet Excellence! More importantly, we look forward (as a community of believers) to demonstrating the excellence of God’s love for everyone through His Son Jesus Christ.

Blessings,

Pastor Chad Hoover,
