Alumni Spotlight: James Dixie '16

What is your current occupation?
Master's Degree student at Goldsmiths, University of London

What led you to your current occupation?
I took a gap year after graduating from my undergrad program and worked at Parkview Behavioral Health for that year. I knew I needed to head back to school for further education in order to become a clinical psychologist in the future. I studied abroad in London the Fall 2019 semester and had an internship during the semester at Goldsmiths as a research assistant to Dr. Ashok Jansari. We stayed in touch after the semester and I kept him updated as I was applying to graduate schools and he is now my supervisor for my dissertation.

What was your education after Concordia?
I attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio and received a Bachelor's in Psychology. I am currently in the MSc Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience program at Goldsmiths, University of London and plan to pursue a PhD in a year or two.

What did you love most about CLHS?
I loved having the opportunity to do many things I enjoyed and experiencing new interests as well. The faculty and staff were good to me as well. I knew that I could reach out to a few of them if I was struggling with anything.

What advice would you pass along to students?
Be safe and be smart in whatever you do. Listen to your body and emotions and understand when something is off and take time for yourself. Experience as much as you can. Look out for your peers because you never know what they are going through. Be good.
