Alumni Spotlight: Seth Bennett '04

What is your current occupation?
Mortgage Loan Advisor - Simply put, I help folks obtaining financing to purchase their first home or dream home or take one step closer to financial freedom through refinancing.

What led you to your current occupation?
Economics, Finance and Math have always been interesting and relevant to me all my life. My mother, Tina, has been in the business for 30 years. I knew in high school, that I wanted to be involved in the lending/real estate industries. When I graduated college in 2008, there weren't many opportunities in the mortgage business. I tried a few different things during that time and ultimately landed back doing what I hoped to do!

What was your education after Concordia?
I went to Indiana University Bloomington with a B.S. in Public Affairs - Public Financial Management. Upon graduation, I realized that I truly had no interest of working in the public sector, so I actually started working for a CPA firm and went to (I)PFW and took accounting classes. Eventually, I found my way to the mortgage business utilizing both the finance and accounting backgrounds along the way. I still love accounting and finance. However, I also enjoy relationships and human interaction. I get the best of both worlds (numbers and people) in my career.

What did you love most about CLHS?
The administration, teachers and peers. I think as a student, you have no concept of the dedication and commitment of all those that make CLHS happen. As you mature and look back, you realize just how often a teacher, a coach or an administrator did little things for you that ultimately are lifechanging. While I remember very few details of the actual learning materials, I can very passionately remember how I felt and still feel this day. You will be hard pressed to find an institution and people that care more about you than you will ever know. Some of that truly was tough love at times, but it kept me on the path. For that I am truly grateful. CLHS gave me tools and confidence to go out and make a difference in the world.

What advice would you pass along to students?
Get involved! While most of my engagements were (and still are) on the athletic side, CLHS offers so many opportunities. Try different things until you find something that truly interests you. Participate in multiple sports or extracurriculars. Without question, some of the most caring, loving and Christ-centered individuals I have encountered in my life have been inside the halls of CLHS. It goes by quick. One day you will look back and wish you had one more conversation, one more class or one more game. Make the most of it today!
