2020-21 Faculty and Staff Accomplishments

Luanne Erdos was awarded Concordia’s Teacher of the Year at the closing Senior Chapel. She also oversaw the Honors Academy Senior Research projects and had two DECA students qualify for the International DECA Competition.

CLHS Teachers, Staff, and Administrators attended countless hours of professional development workshops and conferences via Zoom, including AP coursework, diversity, leading class via remote learning technology, mental health, and operating school during a pandemic.  

Sean Gibson, Social Studies Teacher and CLHS Swim Coach, was named Sectional Coach of the Year for Boys Swimming.

Brian Loesel was presented the Lutheran Education Association (LEA) Outstanding New Secondary Educator Award, and played the lead role of Harold Hill in Concordia’s summer production of “The Music Man.” Brian teaches science classes and coaches boys basketball at Concordia.

Eric Kaschinske participated in the FLAME Educators conference in Ann Arbor, which was organized by Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin Districts of LCMS.

Sarah Behrendt attended the AP Summer Institute for AP English Language and Composition. 

Kevin Macke is in his 20th season as CLHS Boys Soccer Coach with the team ranked No. 3 in the Indiana 2A Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll.

Ashley Wiehe, Communications Manager and Yearbook and Graphic Design Teacher, was awarded the Jay Bleeke Young Professional Award through ALDE (Association of Lutheran Development Executives) for her volunteer work with ALDE and her work in CLHS Communications. She was also certified through HubSpot Academy in Digital Advertising.

Phil Brackmann completed the Association of Lutheran Secondary Schools Future Administrators Candidate Training (FACT) program. Phil is also our Head Boys Basketball Coach and reports that the boys had a great summer session and are looking forward to an exciting season.

Trevor Campbell was presented the CLHS Teacher in Service Award, and Jennifer Grisez was presented the CLHS Staff in Service Award for 2020-2021.

Heidi Wilkinson (Science Teacher) attended Sources of Strength’s “Train the Trainer” this past summer.

MAJ John Sheaffer and SFC Alan Conrad led Concordia’s JROTC Cadets to the 2021 Vex Robotics World Championship. The JROTC Raider Team, Robotics Team, and Drill Team had a very successful year of events and competitions.

Lillian Anderson and Pat Frerking attended the virtual conference, “A Dream Deferred” about practices to address issues of diversity in the classroom. This annual conference is sponsored by The College Board.

Deaconess Deborah Rockrohr attended the 41st annual meeting of Concordia Deaconess Conference for spiritual and professional growth and fellowship.

Mindy Walz and Angela Vasquez attended monthly remote AP English workshops/discussions through the AP TIP-IN program. They also participated in the AP Mock Exam to provide scored practice for our students and scoring practice for us.

Mark Dolde, AP Stats Teacher, is proud that his students earned the highest AP Stats scores in the past 20 years at our school. Mark continues to lead and coordinate our Koinonia program.

Katie Underwood earned her Bachelor of Arts in Art Education in May 2021 at Purdue University Fort Wayne, and soon thereafter attended the AP Summer Institute for AP Art and Design at Ball State University.

The Rev. Theodore Hoham started working on a PhD in Historical Theology and also created the new Biblical Greek course for Concordia students. In May 2021, he served as Army Hospital Chaplain at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.  

CLHS Administrators, Mychal Thom, Josh Sommermeyer, and Pat Frerking led presentations and conversation with fellow school leaders throughout the USA about conducting school during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Principal Pat Frerking is in a cohort with 12 other LCMS Principals from five states, in the inaugural Principal 360, sponsored by the Chicago Lutheran Education Foundation.

Todd Phillips created a new composition this year, titled “March of the Penguins,” and was published by CL Barnhouse. It received an Editors' Choice Award from JW Pepper. He also created “King Swings a Lot,” published by CL Barnhouse, participated in a recording session at Sweetwater Sound with the Francie Zucco Jazz Quartet, continued to perform with various groups in and around Fort Wayne utilizing my skills on keyboard, trumpet, and electric bass, and played in the pit for the CLHS Alumni Musical "The Music Man."
