Concordia to Host the Homer L. Clendenen Regional JROTC Drill Meet

We invite the public to witness the pageantry, as more than 500 Cadets representing the
region's best JROTC units compete in the 53rd Annual Homer L. Clendenen Memorial
Drill Meet, March 2, 2024 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Concordia Lutheran High School, 1601
St. Joe River Drive.

Cadets from Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio represent all four branches of the
military at this highly competitive and prestigious event. Nearly 100 hours of practice and
preparation time has been voluntarily invested by the students. Teams compete in a
myriad of events all designed to demonstrate leadership, discipline, teamwork, and
professional appearance. Teams are male, female, or mixed.

Concordia Lutheran High School JROTC Army Instructor Jon Mitchell says, “While this is a
military drill, the Cadets are also demonstrating citizenship, character, responsibility, team
building, public speaking and service learning. These are skills that all organizations seek in
potential employees.”

Captain Homer L. Clendenen was a Concordia Senior Army Instructor focused on training
the Cadets to make decisions, plan and execute those strategies. Mitchell says Clendenen
brought the JROTC Cadet Battalion into the new age, by instructing ‘life skills.’ The meet
also includes the SFC Paul Miller Air Rifle Competition. The event is free and open to the
public.
