Tips for navigating the financial aid process

It is hard to believe we are at mid-November and one month away from our priority deadline for applying for financial aid for 2018-2019 incoming students. If your family has an incoming student, please make sure to complete the Excel Scholarship, Tuition Scholarship and Band Scholarship applications before December 15.

Please note that when completing the Excel Scholarship application, you must also have two teachers submit recommendations on your child’s behalf in order to be reviewed for the scholarship (available online). If you will be completing the Tuition Scholarship Application, you will need to use your 2016 Federal Tax Return. Estimated award letters will begin going out in the mail by mid-February.

If you already have a child currently at CLHS, there is nothing additional to complete. We will review the student’s GPA at the end of the year to make sure they are meeting the renewal criteria (3.5 for the Concordia Scholars, 2.5 for the Excel and 2.0 for the Cadet). You do not need to complete the Tuition Scholarship. Please note that we are using 2016 tax information to help streamline the renewal process, and we have this information on file for most of our families since that is what was used for 2017-2018. If you have had a change in income, please contact me directly so we can note this in your file.

I would also like to point out that the Indiana Choice Scholarship paperwork can be completed starting in April. Beginning in March, I will start taking requests for appointments to come in and complete the paperwork. In order to fully complete this paperwork, the State requires us to use your 2017 Federal Tax Return, so please make sure you have completed this step prior to setting up your appointment.

As always, if you should have any questions or your circumstances change, please feel free to contact me.
