A Successful Service Day

Concordia’s annual Koinonia Service Day was held on October 4, and Concordia sent 65 separate groups throughout the local community in a variety of service projects. Translated from Greek, Koinonia means “being in Christian fellowship with other Chrisitians.” Concordia’s Koinonia groups consist of 10-12 students from a mixture of grades that meet weekly in prayer, conversation, and fellowship. Please view our Koinonia Service Day Photos of our Concordia students in service. Kudos to Mr. Mark Dolde for his leadership in our Koinonia program.

Dale Hudson writes in the August 15, 2019, edition of Church Leaders that the primary influencer of spiritual influence in a child/teen is their parent. The partnership that Concordia strives to provide to our parents is that of trust, Christian support, and care. The second influencer on our children/teens are their friends. Hudson continues, “Show me your child’s friends and I can tell you what kind of person your child is.” As Principal, who is also a Concordia Parent, I am very thankful for our Koinonia program as a place where our students may form healthy friendships around the word of God, prayer, and Christian fellowship.

The First Quarter ends on Friday, October 11. Students and parents may check grades and report cards via OnCampus. Please contact your teacher(s) if you have questions about a course. Please contact the school’s Guidance Office if you need login assistance to OnCampus.

Along with the end of Quarter 1 of the academic year, is the ongoing, super-charged co-curricular programs of Concordia. God’s blessings to our fall sports’ teams as they wrap up their regular season games and begin state playoffs. Our fine arts programs are very active with our Theatre students performing “Radium Girls,” and a series of One-Act plays, our Marching Cadets Band going strong through ISSMA and BoA competitions, and our A Cappella Choir enhancing Sunday morning church services at a number of our association congregations. Well done and thank you students, coaches, and directors!

Parents mark your calendar to attend our Parent-Teacher conferences at Concordia on Wednesday, October 23, from 6:30-8:30 PM. The format of the evening is a first come - first serve approach with teachers stationed in the gymnasium and cafeteria. Beginning at 6:00 PM parent presentations are given by Concordia’s School Counselors and Administrators about graduation requirements and strategies to save costs in college tuition. Details for this night will soon be emailed to parents and students.

October is National Bullying/Cyberbullying Prevention Month. See this resource from Common Sense Media about how to help your child when they are bullied.

PSAT, SAT, and Khan Academy - FREE Resources - Concordia will be administering the PSAT standardized exam on Wednesday, October 16. Students will receive their PSAT scores in January. Khan Academy offers free SAT Practice, with each student who enters their PSAT code receiving a FREE tailored made study program for future SAT testing based upon the student’s PSAT results. A study conducted by the NBER found that students improve their SAT scores when they retake the SAT exam.

Weather delays and closings are posted on local ABC, CBS, and NBC television stations, via school email, and text messages.

Go Concordia!
