String Orchestra Happenings

The CLHS String Orchestra has just concluded the first half of the school year! We spent the first semester working toward two big concerts. Our first concert took place near the end of October. Along with the high school orchestra, the Lutheran Grade School orchestra program participated in this concert. There were over 150 orchestra students that were a part of the concert! It was so exciting to see the auditorium filled full of friends and families to watch all of the groups perform!

Our second performance was a part of the Music Department’s “Christmas at the Embassy” where we got to share the stage with the bands and choirs.

The string orchestra’s first piece was titled “A Solitary Wish,” which paints a poignant picture of the Christmas season through the eyes of a homeless person. The piece relies heavily on the juxtaposition of Carol of the Bells and Greensleeves. In the end, the homeless person’s state of loneliness is replaced with joy when others join, giving a sense of company.

The orchestra’s second piece was called “Le Divin Enfant.” The piece starts out very mysterious and allegoric but is followed by beautiful variations of the French carol “He is Born, the Divine Child.”

The string orchestra will be preparing for the second semester where more concerts and competitions will happen.

Soli Deo Gloria!
