Exciting events coming up at CLHS

Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6

I encourage you to attend Concordia’s Theatre production of Fiddler on the Roof, February 22-23. Tradition is the central theme of Fiddler on the Roof. From the familiar opening notes of the solo violin, and throughout the joys, heartaches, and humor of the show, tradition is celebrated and lived out by the papas, mamas, sons, and daughters in the village of Anatevka.

I have watched a variety of Fiddler productions (stage and film) and always reflect upon the traditions I was raised with and in, that I continue with appreciation today; worship, prayer, communion, and family. Like Tevye, the central character in Fiddler, I am in constant conversation with God through prayer and thought and my own humor, of what God’s will and wisdom are for me and in the roles I fill at home, work, school, and community. Through the repeatable actions of our traditions we form new memories and deepen relationships that once formed, are not easy to give up. We are at a time of the school year where repeatable acts, traditions, play an important role in forming each student’s future. As the time-tested Proverb instructs, what and how we conduct our lives today, will impact our tomorrow.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held from 6:30-8:00 PM on Thursday, February 13. This is a great opportunity to continue supporting your child’s education and maturation, and ask teachers about course registration for the next school year (see topic below). Two parent workshops are planned the same evening at Concordia. At 6:00 PM in the PFC, Mrs. Nancy Cripe from Tobacco Free Allen County will talk about teen vaping. At 6:15 PM and 7:15 PM in the auditorium, Dr. Michelle Drouin of PFW will discuss parenting children in our digital age. Dr. Drouin is a PFW professor and a leading expert on digital media and the brain.

Late last week our Grade 9-11 students received course registration materials for the 2020-21 school year. Students and parents are encouraged to discuss course registration matters with their school counselor and teachers. Grade 9-11 students submit their course selections via OnCampus and have a due date of Friday, February 14. Two evenings (Feb 27 and March 2) are set aside for current Grade 8 students and their parents to learn more about Concordia and register for next school year’s courses.

Columbine Survivor to Speak at CLHS - Craig Scott is a survivor of the 1999 Columbine High School (CO) shooting in which his sister, Rachel, was killed. During the school day of Thursday, February 13, Craig will speak to our high school students about the value of human life, resilience, and how to turn pain into purpose. Members of our Sources of Strength will have a lunch meeting with Craig Scott immediately following the all-school assembly. He is also speaking to middle school students from Holy Cross and Lutheran South Unity schools earlier in the day. Craig Scott Assembly Poster

Concordia Lutheran High School is one of fourteen schools that form The Lutheran Schools Partnership (TLSP) of NE Indiana. Each of our schools are blessed by dedicated and talented educators. These servants of the Lord exercise their God-given talents in many creative and unique ways in the Christian nurture of God's people. The Lutheran Schools Partnership (TLSP) would like to publicly recognize the accomplishments of Christian educators and further promote and encourage all educators to make full use of their talents and abilities in His service and to His glory. In celebration of its 10th anniversary and desire to recognize our Lutheran school teachers, The Lutheran Schools Partnership Educator of the Year (TLSPEY) Award has been established. TLSP invites you to nominate a teacher for the first TLSPEY via this TLSPEY Nomination Form.

Go Concordia!
