Perspective

During a recent Koinonia Zoom session, I asked the kids to write down the top three things that they complain about the most. As you would suspect, I got the typical answers of school, homework, curfews, etc. Mine include grading papers, practically living in my car as I drive my children to their activities, and kids standing in the middle of the hallway.

After a short story about whining, we reviewed our complaints, and changed them to blessings.

After practicing social distancing for 3-4 weeks at this point, the kids missed school, as it was a time to interact and connect with others. A curfew meant that they could go out with friends. Homework was a sign of normalcy.

I miss grading papers. Having everything graded digitally, I miss out on the little notes that kids write on their papers, the pictures they draw when they get distracted. I now long for the day that a kid with a backpack on, standing in the hallway, unaware of their surroundings, turns quickly and bumps me.

Some of our biggest complaints, are our biggest blessings in disguise. This has been a hard time, but I pray that all are doing well, and that we take time to change our perspective on “normal” life.
