Statement from Mychal Thom, Head of School

We are deeply saddened and disturbed over the recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others in the past due to racial injustice.  We lift up their families in prayer.  We also lift up all those that have been mistreated due to the color of their skin, those that are made public and those that are not.  In short, these have to stop.  Our faculty and staff are committed to actively building and investing in relationships, to walk alongside our students and families as we seek to affect a positive change in a Christ-centered way.  At times we do so privately.  At other times a public response is needed. In all circumstances, however, we seek God’s wisdom, guidance, and direction.

Diversity is a core value of Concordia Lutheran High School.  We ardently believe in the sanctity of black lives and stand together with the black community to stand up for what is right.  We stand up for the sanctity of the unborn.  And with the same fervor, we stand up to do what we can to aid in efforts to end these senseless injustices.  As outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate statements, we seek to produce well-rounded scholars that think critically and creatively to take action for the public good.

Certainly, these are difficult times, and we pray for God’s direction and wisdom through all of this.

Following HIS Lead,

Mychal Thom,
Head of School
