String Orchestra Happenings

The CLHS String Orchestra has just concluded the first half of the school year! We spent the first semester working toward two big concerts. Our first concert took place at the beginning of November. Along with the high school orchestra, the Lutheran Grade School orchestra program participated in this concert. There were more than 150 orchestra students that were a part of the concert! It was so exciting to see the auditorium filled full of friends and families to watch all of the groups perform!

Our second performance was a part of the Music Department’s “Christmas at the Embassy” where we got to share the stage with the Bands and Choirs. The String Orchestra’s first piece was titled, “Angels in the Bleak Midwinter,” which combines Gustav Holst’s “In the Bleak Midwinter” and the joyous “Angels We have heard on High.” Our second piece, “The Journey of the Magi,” masterfully combines Tchaikovsky’s “Arabian Dance” from The Nutcracker Suite and “We Three Kings.” We concluded our portion of the concert with “O Holy Night.” This piece starts out with a cello solo playing the well-known melody. All other instruments in the Orchestra join in with the melody as the piece continues to that classic high note! The piece concludes as quietly as it started.

We are looking forward to an eventful second semester!

Soli Deo Gloria!
