What does Cinco de Mayo mean to you?

Mexico's Independence Day is in September, so why do we celebrate the 5 de Mayo?
To be honest, it is barely celebrated in Mexico. The date commemorates the battle of Puebla,
where the city overtook the French, even though they were outnumbered and out-armed.

This victory gave the country the spirit it needed to keep fighting and gain their independence
a few months later. In the United States, we take this date to make it fit our own narrative and
needs - the need to eat excessive amounts of chips and salsa, while grabbing a few tacos.

As Christians, do we ever do that with the Bible? Do we cherry pick which verses to follow?
Do we use the Lord's word to make it fit our own narrative? So, if you celebrate Cinco de Mayo,
remember that it is truly about the battle of Puebla, and remember God's word is love.
