Alumni Spotlight: Pastor Aaron Staub

During my time at Concordia Lutheran High School (CLHS), I was involved in a wide variety of activities, including A Cappella Choir, Chamber Choir, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Theatre productions. Concordia felt like a second home to me—I spent so much time there outside of class participating in extracurriculars, forming great friendships, and being shaped by loving and encouraging teachers who played a huge role in who I am today.

After CLHS, I attended Concordia University in Seward, where I earned a degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Theology and Vocal Music. I later returned to Seward to complete my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Administration. Once I moved to Omaha, I enrolled in the Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) program at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis and was ordained in 2018.

My teaching career began at Living Word Lutheran High School in Jackson, Wisconsin. Then in the spring of 2013, I received a call to serve at Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha and began that fall.

Since then, I’ve continued to serve at Concordia as both a Pastor and Theology teacher, while also assisting churches across eastern Nebraska by filling in as pulpit supply. Most recently, I completed a year-long pastoral vacancy at a church in North Omaha.

Currently, I serve as the Campus Pastor and Head of Theology at Concordia Lutheran Schools of Omaha (K–12). My days are filled with teaching Freshmen and Senior theology classes, directing our top auditioned choir (Chorale), and organizing and preaching weekly chapel services. In addition, I coach Cross Country in the fall and junior high distance track in the spring.

One message I recently shared with the Senior class at Concordia Omaha is this: People in this world need three things—Whimsy, Wonder, and Witness. We all need a little joy and spontaneity in our lives. It keeps us young, makes life exciting, and lifts others up. When we have Wonder, we’re more aware of God's work and are drawn closer to Him in worship. From that place, we go out and Witness—sharing Jesus with others through how we live. Don’t worry so much about where you’ll go to college, whether you’ll go, or how much money you’ll make. Focus on loving God by serving others, and you’ll live out the Gospel in real, tangible ways.

One Bible passage that has deeply shaped me is Psalm 46. Every time I walked into the cancer center for treatment, I would recite it. It continues to calm my fears and ground me in the truth that God is my refuge and strength. I don’t need to rely on my own strength—because His is always enough.

Outside of ministry and teaching, I still enjoy running and racing—especially when it involves a fun place or great company. Last fall, I ran a trail race up Pikes Peak with a former student who also ran for me. The race finished at over 14,100 feet! My wife, Kelli, is a middle school science teacher, and our kids are heading into their Senior, Sophomore, and 8th-grade years.
