When I meet with families considering Concordia Lutheran High School, I often hear questions about academics, extracurriculars, and college preparation. Those are important - and we take them seriously. But there’s another part of the high school experience that is just as vital: belonging.
Belonging is more than simply knowing people’s names. It’s the deep assurance that you are seen, valued, and cared for - not just for what you do, but for who you are. At Concordia, we believe students learn best when they feel known and supported, and that sense of belonging shapes everything we do.
One of my favorite examples is our Koinonia groups. Every Thursday, students gather in small, mixed-grade groups with a faculty or staff leader. They share highs and lows, read a devotion, sometimes play a game, and always end in prayer. Over time, these groups become like family.
Belonging happens in the lunchroom, in the choir room, in JROTC Raiders training, on the soccer field - anywhere students invite, encourage, and cheer for one another.
When students know they belong, they take risks, try new things, and grow in their faith. That’s why so many of us - students, parents, and teachers alike - say with a smile, “We Love It Here!”
