The Lutheran Foundation awards grants to help CLHS, area students

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Lutheran Foundation has awarded $202,000 to help local Lutheran schools students, including those at Concordia Lutheran High School.

Included in this generous amount was a grant that will supplement financial aid to families whose students have chosen Concordia.

“We are blessed to have so many who want to attend CLHS,” said John Schoedel, chief development officer. “Having the ability through grants to provide additional financial resources to a family is critical to us.”

Concordia has experienced enrollment growth in nine of the last 10 years. With such growth comes the need for greater financial aid.

“We are creating life-long learners and disciples of Christ,” Schoedel said. “We are grateful that The Lutheran Foundation supports our outcomes in such a meaningful way.”

Along with providing financial support for students, The Lutheran Foundation also awarded $12,000 to Matt’s Rack, an organization that provides new and gently used clothing to students in area Lutheran schools, including Concordia.

Started in 2008 by volunteers, it is now managed by Luanne Erdos, business teacher at CLHS, who is passionate about helping those in need.

“In a very confidential manner, we meet with families, Pre-K through high school students, and help them ensure that their children are dressed just like their classmates — from school uniforms to casual, everyday dress,” Schoedel said.

The grant enables Erdos to work with suppliers and purchase quality clothing so that the students feel right at home in their classes.

The Lutheran Foundation invests in organizations that care for our community physically, mentally, and spiritually. By supporting programs that deliver hope and healing, we are the body of Christ. “Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27
