Finish with Strength and Resolve

Hello Concordia,

God is with you. Always!

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Concordia’s Class of 2018 selected Deuteronomy 31:6 as their class verse in which God’s promise is that He is with you always. This verse compliments and encourages our graduates in the Great Commission from Matthew 28:19-20, “Go and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Mr. Chris Brune preached from these two verses in this week’s Senior Chapel; Go, our God of salvation is with you, always! Go, for God is with you! Powerful, assuring, and confident words of faith for our graduates to live with.

At this time of the school year we look back at the academic, physical, and spiritual growth each student has experienced, while encouraging each student to finish the school year with strength and resolve. May God’s peace and assurance be with everyone of our students as they prepare and write final exams, and complete class projects for this semester.

We are also in the season of celebration at Concordia with awards and end-of-year events for academics, JROTC, sports, and fine arts ongoing nearly every day. It is exciting to pause, give thanks and recognition to the great and exciting work and ministry God has blessed at Concordia. On May 27, we celebrate the Class of 2018 with our Commencement and Baccalaureate service. Concordia thanks God for each graduate, and implores His continued blessing on each of them as they proceed forward in life. I pray that God’s extraordinary love, the promise of forgiveness, and hope of everlasting peace be their guide every day. Congratulations Graduates!

Recently I received a book written by Austin Gentry, “10 Things Every Christian Should Know For College” (Amazon). His list includes practical advice of the mind and of the heart of a Christian college student, including:

  • Don’t Fear Doubt (but deal with doubt’s considerations)
  • The Resurrection of Christ is Your Confidence (and foundation of Christian support)
  • Don’t. Go. Home. (in the first couple of months)
  • Plug Into a Christian Community (to charge and recharge)

As a parent of a graduate in the Class of 2018 I have been very reflective over the past few months, wondering how fast time has passed through her years with us at home, joyfully taking in the school events she participates in as they have brought her adventures and friends, but most importantly, celebrating the gift from God she has been. I am thankful for the villages and communities that have raised her. Our villages have included friends and family in numerous locations, with Christ as our unifier. As a parent, I am very thankful that God has brought my family to Concordia Lutheran High School and Fort Wayne. This community is centered and grounded in Christ. Our teachers, directors, and coaches are Christ’s hands, feet, and heart in action. Care and grace abound. Forgiveness is exercised. Since 1935, Concordia Lutheran High School has served the Fort Wayne community in Christian care through education and will continue to do so well into the future.

So Graduates, Go! Knowing with confidence that God is with you. He has you!

Go Concordia!

Patrick Frerking,
Principal
