Cierra Germann, Jasmine Jackson and Jacob Panning all applied and were accepted to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, respectively. Each received a full scholarship.

The 2016-17 school year is in full swing with classes, homework, presentations and exams occurring on a daily basis. Our co-curricular activities are bustling with energy and pride as sports teams and fine art groups have started their events and seasons. Go Cadets!

Growing up as the son and grandson of pastors provided a different type of culture for me than most children. Like Dad and Grandpa, I had to act and respond in certain ways that emulated both of them and their own “culture” of interaction. To some, this meant I had to be grown up as soon as I was able to communicate well with others and had to speak and act in certain ways.

On Friday, Oct. 7, 781 Concordia students will head out into the community to volunteer during the annual Service Day. They go to various locations and do whatever is asked of them. They will serving from 9 a.m. to noon.

Colleagues routinely ask about my transition from public accounting to a role that combines business operations and education. Serving as CFO at Concordia Lutheran High School continues to fascinate me and allows the opportunity to bring together my experiences with accounting, business, education, nonprofits and technology. For those whom might have an interest in serving as CFO someday, it’s important to understand how the responsibilities overlap yet differ from the controller.

Forty-two Concordia Lutheran High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society during a special ceremony Sunday evening.

As I assumed a new role this summer the first, and coincidentally the very Lutheran question that people ask is “What does that mean?” Scarily, my first thought was the first and last item on the job description: “All of the jobs the Head of School doesn’t want to or have time to do.”

I was recently asked why I coach and specifically why I came back to Concordia. Basketball has always been a passion of mine. I love the competitiveness, the intensity, the bond with teammates and stepping outside your comfort zone to be the best that you can be. On top of all of that, we get to wear a cross on our jersey here at Concordia and that’s what it’s all about.
