In 1959, 15 Fort Wayne Lutheran laymen met for lunch regularly. They were Concordia Lutheran High School 1948 and 1949 graduates. One day, in response to awareness of a family needing financial help to attend Concordia, they passed the hat and the Concordia Educational Foundation began.
Incorporated that same year as a 501/c/3 non-profit organization, and through the Lord’s blessings, it now manages $15,225,593 in gifts that established more than 200 endowments. And, through the strong investment management of the Investment Committee and Board of Directors, have grown those gifts to $17,860,753 as of June 30, 2019.
Each year, a percentage (4%-5.75% depending on market analysis) of the value of the Foundation is available for distribution through these endowments. For 2018-19, 326 students received $341,332 through our Endowed Scholarships. Special Endowments provided $178,209 for academic, fine arts and athletic needs. And, General Endowments distributed $249,630 for CEF operations and capital improvements, including a new mini-bus and high school operating costs.
